Encircled in a loop of the Mère River, behind a fortified wall still well preserved, Vouvant was born from the legend of Mélusine, ancestor of the Lusignan’s counts who would have given, in one night, a castle to the village. From this building only remains, watching over the houses coated with lime, the donjon called “Tour Mélusine”. The magnificent Romanesque church of the 11th century is an inescapable place.
